Dissolution Test of Ribavirin Capsules according to JP Method (Y-521)

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Ribavirin is a purine nucleoside analog and an antiviral drug effective against the Hepatitis C virus as well as many other DNA and RNA-based viruses. According to the JP method, dissolution tests should be analyzed using a column packed with strongly acidic ion exchange resin for liquid chromatography composed with sulfonic acid group bound styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer. It is necessary for the system suitability to satisfy theoretical plate number of ≥ 500 and symmetry factor of ≤ 1.5, and for the system repeatability to satisfy relative standard deviation (RSD) of ≤ 2.0% (repeated six times). It was confirmed that the all conditions were satisfied when ribavirin was analyzed using IC Y-521.
