The type of preservatives allowed using in cosmetics and their limits are regulated in Japan (law released in 2000): the maximum allowance of phenoxyethanols and the sum of paraoxybenzoate esters (parabens) and their salts are both set as 1 g/ 100 g of cosmetics. Polymer-based reversed-phase column, Asahipak ODP-50 4D, was used for simultaneous analysis of 2-phenoxyethanol and 6 types of parabens. The result shows good separation of the seven components.
