Question I am looking for a method and a column to determine the formaldehyde concentration to 1ppm using an HPLC. I would mainly prefer a non-derivatized method for the analysis, and I would also like to know if you have a reliable derivatized analysis so I can use it as a backup.     Answer We are sorry but we do not have the application data for the analysis of 1ppm formaldehyde without derivation. Generally, DNPH derivation and fluorescence detection is used for the high sensitive analysis for aldehyde. However, it seems the derivation with DNPH is not perfect for aldehyde. We have seen the higher sensitive analysis for formaldehyde with using the oxidation and ion chromatography. Formaldehyde is oxidated as formic acid by H2O2 in 0.05M KOH, and the formic acid is analyzed by ion chromatography analysis condition such as the following page. http://www.shodex.com/english/dc070511.html We are sorry that we do not have the information regarding the accuracy of this method. However, we have heard the committee of JIS(Japanese Industrial Standards) is considering to use this method for the quantification of formaldehyde.     Additional Comments
