Question I have repair the pump of the HPLC I am using lately and found that now, my column is not working like it is suppose to be. With the gard column, the peaks are going double and doing a kind of irregular “M”. When I take out the gard column, the peaks are very wide (about 15 minutes large). I am wondering if the column is “dead” or if it is possible to repair it. Can I switch the column and try to de-block it (if it’s block) and restore it after? I have to say that my solvent is compose of filtered water at 100%. The maximum flow rate I use is 1 mL/min but the pressure rose at 73 bar now that the pomp is repaired. Is it a to high pressure for the column. What should I do in this case? Thank you very much and have a nice day! Sorry for the English, I speak French.     Answer If the clogging at the inlet of the column is the cause of the pressure rising, the following procedure may be able to remove it; 1, Install the column up side down 2, Run H2O at 0.2mL/min, and observe if the pressure is decreased We recommend this procedure for the columns individually. And do not connect the detector with the column for this case. However, the unusual separation may come from a gap at the inlet of both of the guard column and SC1011. If the higher pressure is loaded to the columns, the top of the packing material is pressed a lot. That makes a gap at the inlet, and this can be the cause of the peak tailing and the peak splitting. And the pressure column should be higher, because the packing condition is thick. Once the gap is made, there is no regeneration method for it.     Additional Comments
