Analysis of residual caprolactam monomer & vinyl acetate monomer

Record: 38

Category: Column Selection
Product: SB804, 404
Sample: residual amount of monomers (vinyl acetate and caprolactam) if present in the polymer.MW is between 90,000-150000

Question
recommendation for the analyais (aq soluble mono polymer) Polymer dissolves in ethanol hence I will use the same. I have orderd the monomers, but my guess is should also dissolve in the same.

As for mobile phase I have not decided, but most probably will use 100 mM sodium phosphate(dibasic) in a mixture of 90% water and 10%methanol.

Answer
For the analysis requires more sensitivity, we have high performance type of the SB-800 series (SB-400 series).
I would recommend SB-404-4E in your case. Compared to SB-804 HQ, SB-404 has smaller particle size, column, id, and the column length (7 um, 4.6 x 250 mm).
This provides higher theoretical plate (>20,000 compared to that of >16,000 SB804), ideally provides a sharper peak, i.e., higher signal to noise ratio.
