The customer is asking me for a column for dextran 40 , the customer uses:

RI DETECTOR
30 CM X 7.8CM PACKED WITH L17 @ 40 CELCIUS .Could you please tell me which one will be good for them ?

Answer
Shodex IC Y-521, RSpak KC-811, SUGAR SH1011 and SH1821 are listed under L17.
KC and SH columns are 8.0 x 300 mm.

I think SH1821 would be more suitable, however, based on my research dextran 40 has MW of 40,000 while exclusion limit for SH1821 is 10,000… so I don’t know if they are looking for a column to analyze dextran 40 or if they need to follow L17. Would you please check this point or mention them about the exclusion limit of SH1821? Also recommended to use temp. over 60 oc.
Of course, if they are trying to separate dextran 40 from much smaller sugars and if the compound does not contain other sugars also bigger than 10,000, dextran 40 can be measured as void..
