Question
I’ve been out sick the past couple of days. Thanks for your email. I think the detector should be okay—it was PM’d recently, and hasn’t been used since then until I started with these columns. It passes all its checks but I definitely can consider that as well if the water wash doesn’t work. Thanks!

Answer
So our technical support in Japan has also tried running the columns with CAD detection under the same conditions as yours, but they do not see an increase in the baseline noise.

They believe the noise may be caused by a substance that originates from the injected sample, the packing material or the eluent. If the substance is hydrophobic, we can expect the noise level decrease by running high concentration of Acetonitrile eluent. The customer uses 90% of Acetonitrile but the noise level is getting worse. So the substance seems to be hydrophilic, and it may be solved by running 100% water.

I hope the water wash will alleviate the baseline noise issue because it seems we are not getting any additional answers at the moment.

Thank you for your patience.
