Question
We installed an IC today with your anion column, and I am hoping you can help me with a couple of questions.

1. Do you have any chromatograms/have you run anions using NaOH mobile phase?
2. If you let carb/bicarb sit for months without running, is it susceptible to microbial growth? Do you have to store it in a fridge?

Answer
We do not recommend using the IC columns with NaOH. I think the functional groups on the polymer can be harmed with the use of strong base. We only recommend the use of carb/bicarb eluent.

The carbonate/bicarbonate solution should be prepared freshly. I do not think it would be susceptible to bacterial growth, but the pH of the solution may change due to the changing levels of CO2. Just like a soda the buffer will become flat over a period of time.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.
