Is the GF-510 column suitable for separation of dimethicone (~10,000 Da)?

Answer
For ~10 kDa dimethicone, the better fit is Asahipak GF-310 HQ (not GF-510). GF-310 HQ’s calibration window (~200–40,000 Da) centers on 10 kDa and typically gives sharper peaks around that mass.

If you’re running a purely organic GPC workflow (e.g., THF/toluene/chloroform), consider the KF series—purpose-built S-DVB GPC for hydrophobic polymers (silicones, resins). For a 10 kDa target KF-802 is commonly used.

When to choose which

• GF-310 HQ → best when you want aqueous/organic flexibility (mixed-solvent SEC) and resolution right at ~10 kDa.
• KF-802  → best for all-organic GPC of silicones; often delivers crisper peaks and very stable baselines in toluene/THF.
