Ethanol Fermentation standard

Record: 33

Category: Column Selection
Product: SC1821
Sample: fermentation biproduct

Question
a Supelcogel C-610H. The customer is using this column. I have one of your applications run on an SH1821 but I just want to confirm that the Maltotriose is the same as DP3 on the Supelcogel application and the Maltotetraose the same as the DP4+. All other analytes are the same so I should be able to sell the Shodex column.

Answer
I think we can recommend SH1821 for the analysis. However, for your information, please read below..

I don’t think we can define that DP4+ = maltotetraose nor DP3=maltotriose.
Please see the attached link, saying the components contribute to the DP4+ peak is not a single source..
http://www.ethanolproducer.com/article.jsp?article_id=119
Although I did find some articles saying that are equal.. so probably a large contribution is from them.
(e.g. http://www.nature.com/ki/journal/v62/n81s/full/4493369a.html
http://www.patents.com/non-maltogenic-exoamylases-retarding-retrogradation-starch-6667065.html)

We also have another application showing the separation of DP4+ and DP3 using SH1821.
http://shodex.net/index.php?seitenid=1&applic=1091
It is not a baseline separation.. depending on what analytes the customer is looking at (need to quantify) they may be able to optimize the mobile phase to obtain a chromatogram they require.
