Question
I have a question of filtration of GPC samples. In the UT-806M SOP it says to remove gel or insoluble species using a 0.45 micron filter. For polymer with MW of a few millions, can it be filtered out using such a fine filter?
This sometime can be critical for polyethylene. Another thing is for PE the filtration has to be done at high temperature, do you know any filter than can stand for high temperature?

Answer
Regarding your question from yesterday, sample preparation, I received answer from lab in Japan.
They said, for high temperature analysis cases, the sample preparation (filtration) cannot be done manually (because it’s too dangerous).
There are commercial automated system does sample dissolution and filtration.
I heard that most time this system is an option/come together with high temperature GPC system.
So you may want to ask the manufacturer of your GPC system.
