Furan testing

Record: 135

Category: Column Selection
Product:
Sample: furan

Question
The goal is to see if there is residual furan in our product. The detection is only for furan. If the API does not show up on the chromatogram that is fine. We are trying to separate FURAN from our polysaccharide and then see if can be quantified in HPLC at ppm levels. We would have calibrate the system with Furan standards at different ppms.

Answer
I think one of our SEC columns should work for the separation of furan from polysaccharide.
Do you have any idea of your sample solubility?
By looking at MSDS for furan, it is soluble in methanol.
If you were to use methanol as a mobile, I think our SB-802.5 column will be a choice.
The bigger polysaccharide will not be retained much, while smaller furan will be retained and elutes at later time.
If you have other solvent in your mind, please let me know it.
