Question
I while ago, we purchased some polystyrene standards for PC analysis. I noticed on the instructions that it needs to e stored at specific temperature and conditions.
Is there any issue regarding expiration, or do they go bad over time or if they are stored under different conditions. I thought polystyrene was very stable ?
Please advise, because our ISO compliance auditor has requested us this information. It is very important for us your answer.

Answer
I belive this is the manual you are mentioning (or an updated version).

As stated here, polystyrene standards are extremely stable and have a long shelf life – when stored under reasonable conditions. This is a normal room temperature condition (20-25 oC) that I think most labs keep the room in this temperature range for the instruments. I do not think this is anything special from other regular chemical storage conditions. As long as you keep the standards in the box that came with and store in a drawer, it will keep them away from the direct sun also. Unless you place the standards at extreme conditions, the standards should not deteriolate (i.e., break down and change their MW) for a long time period.
