Shodex Column Recommendation for High Molecular Weight Polymers (KS-807 Replacement)

Record: 597

Category: Column Selection
Product: SB-807
Sample: HMW polymers

Question

A customer is currently using a Shodex KS-807 column but is working with very high molecular weight polymers. They are asking if there is a column with a higher molecular weight range or improved performance for larger molecules. Does Shodex offer a suitable alternative?

Answer
For size exclusion chromatography of high molecular weight polymers, Shodex SB-807 HQ is typically the recommended alternative to KS-807. This column is designed for aqueous SEC (GFC) and provides a higher exclusion limit, making it more suitable for the analysis of larger polymer species.

SB-807 HQ offers an extended molecular weight range compared to KS-807, allowing improved separation of very large molecules that may be partially or fully excluded on KS-807. It is suitable for water-soluble polymers such as pullulan, dextran, and other high molecular weight polysaccharides.

For applications requiring broader molecular weight coverage, SB-800 HQ series columns can also be used in combination to extend the separation range.

Additional Comments
KS-807 and KS-807G are discontinued products. Customers should transition to SB-800 HQ series columns for continued support.
