Question
One of our methods employs an Asahipak amino NH2P-50 2D column for the anion exchange analysis of oligosaccharides. Since the literature suggests this is a PVA stationary phase, would this be considered a weak anion exchange column?

Answer
Our NH2P series column is PVA base modified with polyamine functional group.
Main separation mode generally used is HILIC mode, in the use with ACN/H2O mobile phase.

However, it can be also used with low pH buffers, to protonate the amino groups. i.e., yes, it can be used as an anion exchange column.
Applications like below are the example.

Is this condition similar to your method?

Please refer to page 2 on technical notebook on NH2P series column for more details.

Indeed, it is difficult to categorize NH2P into regular strong/weak ion exchange column.
However, since ion exchange capacity changes based on the pH of the mobile (the proton ratio changes significantly), I would think it is closer to weak anion exchange.
