Question
We have been running some tests using our ODP2 HP-4E column. However, we have realized that our mobile phase had a pH of 1.5 which is a little below the column capacity. We have been running our column on that solution for a while now and will change to higher pH for the future. How is this going to affect the column? How can we check whether the matrix inside got damaged because of this?

Answer
As you are aware now, the pH recommendation for ODP2 HP is 3-12.
It does not mean that the gel will be damaged all the sudden under pH<3. It is our guaranteed working pH that we know for sure it will not influence the gel. Condition may also differ by the presence of salt, organic solvent etc.. If you have not seen any change in your chromatograms, chances are (and hopefully) that the gel has not been damaged. If you have the same standards used in Certificate of Analysis came with the column that will be a good way to test the column performance. However, sometimes the damage may not been seen in one type of sample but with the other. If you do not have the standards, you may try creating the same condition and samples you previously used (preferably at higher pH condition) and compare the old and new chromatograms. And of course, if you have a budget, it is always recommended to have a backup column for testing.     Additional Comments
