Question
column for organic acid separation in sports drink

Answer
I found following applications using our RSpak KC-811 column (ion exclusion with reversed phase mode).

http://shodex.net/index.php?seitenid=1&applic=861
Malonic acid will be eluted around the same time as Malic acid using KC-811 (http://shodex.net/index.php?seitenid=1&applic=840)
Since elution volumes of phosphoric acid and citric acids are close, probably require KC-L + 2 x KC-811 as the example shows.

Based on the structure, I think caffeine will be eluted at later time than organic acids, but unfortunately we do not have application with KC-811 and so I cannot say for sure where it will be eluted..Elution for caffeine might be able to optimize by adding ~10% ACN in the mobile phase.

Another thing I should mention is that when using CD as a detector, detection limit will not be as good as that of post column method. UV may provide a better sensitivity (Please see pg 14, Fig3-5 on the link below).

Another possibility is as you said, ion-chromatography method, using NI-424

Sorry, I could not find this application in English, but you see the sample names in English. I think the three organic acids will be separated under the similar condition..if you could give me a day or so, I can ask application specialist in Japan to double check if she has data on the analytes using NI-424…
