Phospholipid Removal – Recommended Column

Record: 903

Category: Column Selection
Product: ODP2
Sample: Phospholipid

Question
Which Shodex column is recommended for removing phospholipids during sample preparation?

Answer

Shodex does not offer a dedicated affinity column for phospholipid removal. However, reversed phase chromatography can be used, since phospholipids are strongly hydrophobic.

  • A gradient method can be applied: first elute the compounds of interest, then switch to a stronger organic solvent to elute the phospholipids.

  • A polymer-based reversed phase column such as ODP2 may be suitable, especially if the target compounds are hydrophilic and poorly retained on C18, C8, or C4 silica-based phases.
