Question
A few questions about the use of an ion-exchange column for haloacetic acids came up for my research proposal (and approval for the funds) do you have any literature or data to support that info that is available on the Shodex website

Answer
Unfortunately, we do not have an exact method for haloacetic acid analysis published. However, I would recommend you to take a look at following paper:

Analysis of trifluoroacetic acid and other short-chain perfluorinated acids (C2-C4) in precipitation by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry: comparison to patterns of long-chain perfluorinated acids (C5-C18)
Sachi Taniyasu, Kurunthachalam Kannan, Leo W.Y.Yeung, Karen Y.Kwok, Paul K.S. Lam, Nobuyoshi Yamahsita
Analytica Chimica Acta 619 (2008) 221-230

It discusses a method development for perfluorinated acid using JJ-50 column.
The mobile phase used is very similar to the one for haloacetic acid, but uses MeOH instead of ACN.
By considering their structures and ionic strengths, I think you will be able to explain the theory behind for the separation of haloacetic acid, thus possibility of using JJ-50 for their analysis. I’m sure you can include the paper as reference in your proposal.
