Shodex Column Recommendation for β-Glucan Analysis

Record: 821

Category: Column Selection
Product: SB-806M
Sample: β-Glucan

Question
Which Shodex SB column should be used for β-glucan analysis?

Answer
For β-glucan and other high-molecular-weight polysaccharides, the recommended column is the OHpak SB-806M HQ.
This column provides aqueous size-exclusion chromatography (SEC/GFC) separation optimized for large biopolymers such as β-glucans derived from yeast, mushrooms, or seaweed (e.g., laminarin).

  • Recommended column: OHpak SB-806M HQ (8.0 × 300 mm, 13 µm)
  • Mode: Aqueous SEC (GFC), mixed-gel calibration type
  • Molecular weight range: ~5 × 10³ – 2 × 10⁷ Da (single column)
  • Typical samples: β-Glucan, laminarin, dextran, pullulan, starch, cellulose derivatives, water-soluble polymers
  • Eluent: Water or 0.1 M NaNO₃ (isocratic)
  • pH range: 3 – 10
