Question
I would like to confirm one thing on the 806M-HQ column. We might have a few percent of organic solvent in our samples, say <10% of THF or Ethanol/Methanol. We typically prepare a 10 mg/mL solution and inject 10 uL per injection. Would you have any concerns regarding the organic solvents? Is there a high probability that the column might be damaged over time?I forgot to ask you about diethyl ether. I suppose it is similar to THF chemically. Is there any word of caution on 1-2% Diethyl ether in our polymer? Again we inject 100 ug of polymer on to the column so it would be 1-2 ug of diethyl ether onto our 806M-HQ column     Answer
Even for the mobile phase, SB-806M can be used with 75 percent MeOH so MeOH and EOH I wouldn’t concern. THF should not be used as a mobile, but small amount in the sample should not affect the column. Please make sure that sample will not precipitate when mixed with a large volume of your mobile phase. As long as your sample is completely soluble, that is fine.Any solvents will apply to what I wrote in the last email.
Small amount of organic solvents present in the sample should not damage the column or its performance immediately as long as it is miscible with the mobile phase. For the long term period, it is very difficult to say if it impacts the column life or not. But this is for any type of sample regardless of its organic solvent contents.
