We are currently using your 806M-HQ columns for water soluble polymer analysis. We would like to know (1). If there any coating on the –HQ columns? Is there any difference in chemistry between the –HQ and the –E columns?
(2). How much better resolution should we expect in SB-805-HQ compared to SB-806M-HQ between Mp of 150 K and 450K?

SB-800 HQ series is a polyhydroxymethacrylate base SEC column and no particular surface modification has been applied.

I suppose –E column you have mentioned is our SB400 series column. –E indicates the column length 250 mm, instead of 300 mm for SB-800 series.
The gel material for SB-800 HQ and SB400 series are the same, but in general, particle gels packed in SB400 series are smaller than that of SB-800 HQ series and also because of the smaller column i.d., they provide higher resolution in shorter analysis time. Although in order to use SB400 series, you should have a semi-micro HPLC system that is suitable for providing consistent flow rate <0.3 mL/min. Regarding the separation performance between SB-805 HQ and SB-806M HQ, SB-805 HQ will provide a better separation in 150 K and 450K (pullulan standard) range. Since SB-806M HQ is a mixed gel (linear calibration type) it provides a straight calibration curve over a wide range, suitable for the MW determination. However, it is not so good for separation purpose. I am assuming that you are not seeing much separation of 150K and 450K polymers with SB-806M. In theory, the elution volume differences will double using SB-805 HQ. However, this also depends on the characteristics of your sample. If you need to improve the separation, using multiple number of columns is always an option. Would you be able to tell us the MW differences of your target analytes? Also do you have information on MW distribution of them? If you could send us a chromatogram taken by SB-806M and information on used conditions, we might be able to analyze if SB-805 HQ is a better option for you or not.     Additional Comments
