Largest Pore Size Shodex SEC Columns for Acrylic Polymer Analysis

Record: 824

Category: Column Selection
Product: SB-807
Sample: polar acrylic polymer

Question

I am analyzing a polar acrylic polymer and heard that Shodex offers the largest pore size GFC column. Can you provide information on SB-807 HQ and SB-806M HQ?

Answer

Yes. Shodex offers large-pore aqueous SEC (GFC) columns in the SB-800 HQ series, suitable for polar acrylic polymer analysis:

  • SB-807 HQ

    • Pore size: 30,000 Å

    • Column size: 8.0 mm I.D. × 300 mm

    • Particle size: 35 µm

    • Exclusion limit: up to ~5 × 10⁸ Da (pullulan standard)

    • Recommended for very high molecular weight polymers, with large gel particles that reduce shear degradation.

  • SB-806M HQ

    • Mixed-gel type with multiple pore sizes (100–15,000 Å)

    • Column size: 8.0 mm I.D. × 300 mm

    • Particle size: 13 µm

    • Suitable for analyzing samples with a broad molecular weight distribution (up to ~2 × 10⁷ Da).

Notes:

  • Base material: Polyhydroxymethacrylate

  • Usable pH range: 3–10

  • Shipping solvent: 0.02% NaN₃ aq. (SB-806M HQ) / H₂O (SB-807 HQ)

Summary:

  • For very high MW acrylic polymers, choose SB-807 HQ (largest pore size: 30,000 Å).

  • For broad MW distributions, use SB-806M HQ.
