Question
I’ve attached sample chromatograms showing the peak splitting we see by SEC, to see if you might know someone who could answer why the H2O peak is split. It’s perplexed me for quite some time.

Answer
It seems like they are nitrogen and oxgen peaks. From looking at the peak ratio, the bigger one is nitrogen and the smaller one is oxygen. However, she thinks the peaks you are observing is too big for the water eluent. There might be a possibility that your degasser has some problem.. it may worth checking the degasser’s condition or you may degass water prior to the use to see if it changes anything.
