Does Shodex Have an Equivalent to IonPac AS16 (EPA 314.0)?

Record: 806

Category: Column Selection
Product: SI-37 4D
Sample: Oxyhalides and common inorganic anions

Question
A customer asked whether Shodex offers an equivalent to the Dionex IonPac AS16 column, used in EPA Method 314.0.

Answer
Shodex does not have a column with the exact same specification as the IonPac AS16; however, the SI-37 4D is the closest alternative within the Shodex line. It is designed for anion analysis using carbonate-based eluents and provides good separation of oxyhalides and common inorganic anions, aligning with the analytical goals of EPA 314.0.

Suggested option:

  • SI-37 4D (anion exchange, polymer-based, carbonate-compatible)
    – Suitable for oxyhalides and general inorganic anions
    – Can be used as a starting point for adapting methods originally developed on AS16

For customers required to follow EPA Method 314.0 exactly, Shodex does not currently have a fully compliant substitute. If flexibility exists, the SI-37 4D may serve as a viable alternative with appropriate method adjustment.
