Question
I have recently purchased a Shodex PIKESS SP-2B column and have a couple of questions.

1. 15% polar organic solvents. Can I clean or run the column with hexane at higher than 15%, or is running eluent from opposite direction all I can do for cleaning?
2. MeOH, EtOh, and ACN are only organic solvents listed are there others I can use, if so at what concentration?
3. Do you have any applications for Phenylephrine analysis?

Answer
1&2. You may use up to 20% of water-soluble organic solvent. Thus hexane cannot be used.

General recommendation for cleaning SP-2B is:
http://shodex.net/index.php?seitenid=1&applic=1264
“Inject 500 µL of 0.1M NaOH aqueous solution, 50% formic acid aqueous solution, 20% CH3CN aqueous solution or 20% dimethyl sulfoxide aqueous solution several times. Flow the eluent at 0.3 to 0.5mL/min.”

You may reverse the flow for cleaning. I would recommend keeping the flow rate at ~0.5 mL/min.

3. Unfortunately, we do not have an application for Phenylephrine. Are you having any difficulty separating Phenylephrine from something else? If so would you be able to tell us other components, analytical condition, as well as providing us a sample chromatogram? I’d like to see if we can suggest something.
