I spoke to you a few weeks ago about the Shodex SP0810 HLPC column; could you clarify something for me?

The mounting instructions for the column state to heat the column to degas the solvent, making sure solvent flows out of both ends. I am envisioning placing the column in the column oven to do this but as the column oven is a closed system (and we would have to keep opening it to check) is there a better way?

This is a translation problem. My Japanese general manager says to use the following procedure:
Place the column in the heater with the end caps on.
Heat the column to 70C.
Carefully remove the end cap to release any bubble that may have formed.
Replace with tubing.
Please use gloves resistant to heat.

I do not think this is a practical procedure, so I will forward your inquiry to Japan for clarification. We will not hear back from them until Monday. If you would like to wait I will email back at that time.

I have asked our technical support in Japan about the column mounting procedure. They have replied below:

The following is the procedure for mounting the column on the flow line in the column oven.

1, Prepare H2O in the eluent bottle
2, Degas the eluent with using sonic and aspirator as the attached file.
3, Set the eluent bottle on LC system, and run the eluent at 0.2mL/min without heating the column oven.
4, Remove the caps from the inlet and outlet of the column
5, With running the eluent, connect the tube from the injector to the inlet of the column, and connect the outlet and the detector by tubing.
6, Turn on the column oven, and start heating the column to 80deg-C
7, After 5min, set the flow rate to 1.0mL/min , and wait for the stable base line

The reason why we recommend degassing strongly is from the temperature condition for SP0810.
