Shodex offers weak cation exchange columns based on a carboxymethyl functional group for the separation of ionic and polar compounds under aqueous conditions.

Two representative columns are available:

Shodex IEC CM-825
This column uses a polyhydroxymethacrylate base material with a carboxymethyl functional group. It is suitable for the analysis of relatively high molecular weight compounds such as proteins, peptides, DNA, and RNA, and can be used across a wide pH range (approximately pH 2–12).

Shodex Asahipak ES-502C 7C
This column is based on a polyvinyl alcohol stationary phase and provides a different selectivity compared to methacrylate-based ion exchange columns. It is designed for the separation of ionic compounds under mild conditions, with reduced hydrophobic interaction, making it suitable for sensitive analytes such as proteins and polar compounds.

Both columns provide moderate ion-exchange capacity and are used when weaker ionic interactions are desired compared to strong cation exchange columns.
